The founding of Singapore Kityang Huay Kuan:
In the early 20th Century, Chinese immigrants came to Singapore in search for better life and financial stability for the family. They came from all walks of life and they work in different industry from small business owners to manual workers.
Being in a completely new environment, where people are of different culture and races, they feel isolated, lost and unsecured. So fellow Chinese Immigrants from Kityang tried to form Huay Kwan to help new fellow immigrants to adapt to new environment and works, a need to build a common community spirit, a place to share news of their hometown but all were not realized as all are too busy with their own commitments.
There have been numerous discussions from 1930 to 1940 on the setting up of Kityang Huay Kwan but this effort was not successful as the response from fellow Kityang immigrant was not good.
