Youth Group

Singapore Kityang Youth Group is formed and financed by Mr Ng Nam Teck on the 13th August 2013. Mr Ng was then the Chairman of Singapore Kityang Huay Kuan. Dr Lim Boh Soon is nominated as the Youth Group Consultant. The group’s vision and mission is to find and unify all Kityang descendants to join Kityang Huay Kuan, to protect and to spread our Teochew’s culture and tradition.

The 1st Executive Committee of Singapore Kityang Youth are all of Kityang descends. They have not much experience in activities of any Association, and some of them are joining Association for the first time. However, with the goal of contributing their efforts to the Youth Group, these youths started to understand their mission from a series of activities after the inauguration.

The Youth Group was invited to join the Teochew Festival, organized by Singapore Poit Ip Huay Kuan in 2014. During the event, they are exposed to the cultures and traditions of Teochew, eg, Teochew specialty food, tea, art pieces and calligraphy. The Youth Group also understood the hardship that our fore-fathers had endured to come over to Singapore and make a living. The International Teochew Youth Federation also held a 1 day seminar during the Teochew Festival and Singapore Kityang Youth Group expanded their contacts during that seminar.

The Johor Poit Ip Huay Kuan invited the Singapore Kityang Youth Group over for a visit after the Teochew Festival 2014. The Youth Group made the visit on the 15th November 2014. During the visit, the Youth Group learn about how the Johor Poit Ip Huay Kuan work to keep the traditions and culture of teochew in Johor, and the Youth Group was very motivated to do the same back in Singapore.
